What mattered most was giving our staff reliable systems they could count on. AVS helped us get there, and our residents feel the benefit every day.

Context
TNDC is San Francisco’s largest nonprofit housing provider, serving more than 7,300 residents across 50 buildings in 8 neighborhoods.
Keeping communities safe has always been part of TNDC’s mission. Some properties, however, had older equipment or different systems that made it harder for staff to stay ahead of issues.
With residents ranging from seniors to families to youth, the need was clear: create a consistent approach at select sites that could ease the burden on staff and make daily safety more reliable.
The Solution
TNDC partnered with AVS to strengthen security at a number of its properties. The focus was to support staff with practical tools that worked the same way across locations. Together, we:
- Reviewed existing systems through remote and onsite checks.
- Added higher-resolution cameras in common areas and entrances.
- Improved access control where it was most needed.
- Connected properties to System Health Monitoring so issues could be spotted and fixed quickly.
- Piloted remote monitoring at certain sites to give staff extra support during off-hours.
- Integrated exterior cameras with SafeCity Connect, extending visibility across the Tenderloin.
AVS provided the technology, design, and ongoing service. TNDC directed the priorities and kept staff at the center of the program.
The Results
- Quicker response to incidents through clearer video and consistent processes.
- Staff support with training and proactive system checks, reducing the time spent troubleshooting.
- Improved coverage at entrances, lobbies, and other key areas.
- Community benefit as exterior cameras also contributed to broader neighborhood safety efforts.
Closing
For TNDC, safety is about people first. By updating select properties with a consistent program, they gave staff reliable tools and residents greater peace of mind. AVS supported the work, but the commitment and leadership came from TNDC.
